The regulations set out by the government require manufacturers and importers of chemicals to evaluate the hazards of their products and prepare labels and safety data sheets to inform their customers. Employers who have hazardous chemicals in their workplaces must also have labels and safety data sheets for their workers and train them on how to handle these chemicals properly. Additionally, dental instruments and supplies should not be stored in places where they can get wet, such as under sinks. The American Dental Association (ADA) and other leading dental authorities have expressed their concerns to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the safety of dental linings, repair kits, pads, cushions, and other items that are marketed and labeled for lay use in repairing, reconditioning, or cushioning ill-fitting, broken, or irritating dentures. The Dental Content Committee also plays a formal advisory role under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for all transactions related to dental health care services.
